I finally finished my upgrade ( duo core E5200 -> Phenom II 965 BE, HD 4770 -> GTX 460) thanks to a lot of great input from the community here. The changes were astounding, practically night and day in overall performance.

Well, my question is regarding the stock heat sink fan. At idle, 37-38 deg C, why is my fan going over 6k rpm. I know the ambient temps get a bit hotter in the day but its kind of odd when the fan was going around 4.2k rpm last night. I only ask because its ridiculously loud and living rooms is fairly small and I have wood floor so I feel like I can hear the fan over everything. I don't plan on doing any OC. My question is do I need to get an aftermarket cooler just for the fan?

Yes, if you want something more silent than the stock cooler you need to upgrade the cooler, hence the reason it comes for free with the CPU =)

You can get something more silent for around 20.00$.
