Cable lenght limit for IDE.

Hello. I would like to know whether the cable lenght limit for IDE hdds/optical devices will still aply if I use a sata bridge to connect my ide hd to a sata port. In other words, if I use a SATA bridge on my IDE peripheral, will the max cable lenght be 1m or 50cm? Thanks.
