Connecting TV to Desktop

I have a sharp Tv and a Vaio desktop, I connected the tv and desktop with the svideo cable and hear the sound but do not see the picture on the tv can someone tell me how to resolve this problem.

Please specify which TV and desktop you're using. This might be a stupid question, but have you connected the yellow plugs of your S-Video cable?

What sort of graphics are you using? intel integrated? Nvidia? AMD? they will all have different ways of setting up a second screen.

With some graphics cards you have to connect the TV before turning on the PC.

Any updates OP? Also agree with both. You may even have to activate something on your desktop to use a secondary display.

The sharp tv is the 27 inch, it is not those modern tv's it is over ten years old but anyway my desktop is a sony vaio and it operates windows xp and I am using the four pin svideo and it did connect properly but I heard the movie but did not see it display on the tv. I have intel , it is a sony vaio desktop.
