According to AMD web-site, the Phenom X3 can be used on the SK8N motherboard. Will this processor out perform my FX-51 if I swap it out?

Yes it will. Its a far better tech then what you have. I recomend a newer MB though with am2+ or Am3 socket.

I do not think that Phenom X3 has a memory controller for ddr ram. I would check that information better of course asus does not have it on their compatibility list for the SK8N.

I made a request to AMD questioning their web-site and they indicated that the chip would not physically fit even though it was 940 pin. Then they asked where I found the inforamtion.

The ASUS SK8N is a Socket 940 motherboard designed for earlier AMD Athlon FX-51 and FX-53 socket 940 processors utilizing DDR1 memory. The AMD Phenom X3 processors are socket AM2+ which also has 940 pins but of a different physical layout which would prevent the processor from fitting into the Socket 940 motherboard. Furthermore, the Socket AM2+ AMD Phenom X3 processors require DDR2 memory which is physically different than DDR1.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Where on our website have you see information stating that the Asus SK8N is compatible with Phenom X3 processors?

Apparently, their site is wrong.
