I am currently considering upgrading my slow AMD 3800+ (AM2 Socket) to a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5050e(low power consumption 45watts) and I am wondering if this processor is compatible with my motherboard? Or are all AM2 socket processors compatible with all AM2 socket mobos?

Current specs of my Dell C521:
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Orleans, Socket AM2(62watts)
Mobo Specs:
Chipset GeForce 6150 Southbridge: nForce 410/430 MCP

I know Dells are really terrible to upgrade.

Thanks in advance

That new CPU should work with your motherboard, unless Dell limited your mobo's expandability. Best suggestion I have is to brave technical support and ask them if that X2 5050e will run properly.

The 5050e should run properly but it was released after the lastest BIOS upgrade. It might be recognized, and might not be. I own a Dell c521, the other 5200+ CPU I had in there was recognized .1-.2 GHz different. I heard someone could run a 4850e Athlon X2 on this machine, but tis worth a shot.

Just make sure it's a no-questions-asked policy before buying!

Too lazy to contact Dell tech support huh? So your going to purchase it just to see if it might work? Good luck with that. lol

Dell technical support is so bad. They wouldn't know something like that and tell me to buy Dell approved products for way overpriced. Dell doesnt want people upgrading their computers they want them to buy a whole new one. On top of that you cant even understand the people your talking to.
