i currently have a Dell computer i bought around 2005-2006. i want to switch to a faster processor than what i have. Pentium D 805 95nm 2.66Ghz 533 FSB. i tried a core 2 E7200 but my system didnt start. im looking into pentium dual core processors but theyre all manufactured in 45nm technology. would i be able to use those or do i have to look for another 95nm pentium processor for my system to function??? :??:

You would have to find out what motherboad you have and what chipset and find out what chips it supports. What model Dell do you have?

First of all the PD 805 is 90nm

You have to see if your mobo supports a newer cpu (chances are it won't). At the very least you'd need to flash the bios.

You probably have a Dell Dimension 5100 with a 945 motherboard.
Best place to check for upgrade options is the Dell Support forums.
But I have a feeling the best upgrade options you'll have will be 65nm Pentium D 945 3.4Ghz or there about. Hardly worth the trouble upgrading IMO.

A P33/P43 motherboard and that C2D E7200, plus DDR2 667 or 800 RAM would be a worthy upgrade.

Yaah. Ive been Trying to find a 65nm Pentium D. At Micro Center and Newegg. I Think Frys also. or another 90nm Pentium D. But they all Say its manufactured in 45 nm which is why i was asking if that kind would work with mine.

Might as well save up to build a new waaay better comp.
