i was looking at some cases, and ill give an example...the antec 1200, comes with fans already, can i always switch out the fans for something stronger? and when people say "case moding" what do they mean?

case modding would be like cutting out holes to fit more fans or larger fans or even something as huge as redesigning the case entirely.

If you do it yourself, you'll need a hole saw or a dremel, and a drill or drill press.

Considering it comes from CoolerMaster, its not technically a 'mod'. Just a really fancy, expensive case.

+1 for looking over MonsterMawd's posts for getting an idea of what case modding is really about.

Where can we find the technical definition of a 'mod'?
Is adding a water cooling system a mod? How about a couple case decals, some case lighting and a front panel controller?
If someone commissions and buys a custom case from MonsterMawd (or other modder) is he getting a 'mod' or just a really fancy, expensive case?

Why does it matter who does the modification? It certainly doesnt look like a "stock" case to me.

Its not a 'mod' because the work is done by the OEM.

EDIT: I might be willing to extend that definition for a one-of-a-kind case from an OEM, but it must be unique. If its mass produced, it cant be a mod.

The OEM sells the case but they don't do the work.
