Some people swear by PCI post cards to diagnose mobos. You plug the card into an available PCI slot then boot your system. Post codes (2-4 digits) show up on the card's display. You then look up the codes in a reference to figure out what is failing. You then have the information you need to decide if it is cheaper to fix the board or chuck it and buy a new one. One example is StarTech PCI Post Diagnostics Test Card Model PCIPOST for $45 at newegg.

Good luck.
