Many new laptops with intel CPUs have a 1066MHz FSB but use DDR2 memory with 800MHz. Can you upgrade to DDR3 memory and would this have a worthwhile impact on performanc?

DDR2 and DDR3 are not compatible.

And a DDR2 chipset will not support DDR3

Also 1066Mhz (QDR) is really just 266Mhz FSB that's been quad pumped. While DDR2-800 actually operates at 400Mhz. You are already running your RAM faster than your system bus (FSB)
