I ordered an evga x58 motherboard from newegg, and when I received it I noticed that the 'quality assurance' seal had been broken. I take out the motherboard, it looks fine, looks new with stickers and everything, but the installation disk is missing
I really needed this computer built by this weekend, but I also don't want an open box motherboard that I paid full retail price for. Should I be concerned that this motherboard is a returned item, or is it possible for the seal to break during shipping (and somehow the installation disk went missing)?
I would contact newegg and let them know. It will take them a few days to get back in touch with you and advise you on what the options are. Download the drivers from th EVGA website and give it a whirl and see if it all works for you. If it does, then fine. If it does not work for you then you can probably return it to newegg.
If you call Newegg customer service they will talk to you right away. The only problem you will have is getting a replacement board by this weekend.
The seal will not break durring shipping. I would wait and get a replacement with out question.
I have an account with newegg so when I have a problem I just call get a RMA, print the UPS lable, and have a new one shipped out. I get the credit when they receive the defective or wrong part.. no problem.
If it works, make sure you check that you get the same (or better, for sending you an open box) warranty. You don't want to get screwed later for having an issue, and them claiming you purchased an open box item.
