It should work but it is a bit close. I have a 550 for a 4870

I have a Q6600 with 4 x 1 Gigs of RAM and an 8800gt 512 OC running on a Corsair 400w PSU [80 Plus] 30A single rail.

It should be fine. I think I might be cutting it close if I bumped to a 4870 but it will play Crysis for 5 hours without a hitch using the 8800gt OC.

The AMPs sound a little low on your PC Power and Cooling but it must be fine they make great stuff and they still sell that unit.

My Q6600 uses more juice than your e8400 because its not the 45nm and its a quad.
(95w vs 65w)

The 8800 uses more juice than the 9800 because the 9800 also had a die shrink and the gx250 is even cooler.

The 4870 is a pig. But you should be able to run it still with the extra 70 watts you have over me.

I'm running 4 ram chips, 2 hard drives, a DVD burner, 4 fans and several USB devices through a passive USB hub.

PP&C has a cross fire\sli certified 500W unit.

Thats supposed to handle 2 of these cards.

After further research the 4870 needs 600W for Crossfire the 4850 would get by on 500w

My question to you is...

Why's your PSU so big?

my psu is atx 12v/eps12v? its big? ummm? lol by the way will it work for ALL the cards? and what should i buy 9800 gtx+ or 4850 or 4870.

The 4870 is a way better card than the others if money is no object. It's around 190 today the others are around 145ish.

Just make sure you have enough PCI Express plugs for the 4870. It usually wants 2. The other cards usually need just 1.

The Sapphire 4870 1 gig comes with adapters for two pci-e connectors.

It reccommends a 500 watt PSU to run it though. ..

I meant big in terms of wattage not size. I'm downsized from a 550W unit when I realized I was wasting power and making extra heat. My Corsair 400W has a single 30A rail which is a lil better than your 26A. Are you sure it's 26A the PP&c 420W is a single 27A rail?

Reply to balthalzar

Reply to balthalzar

so im gussing the 4870 wont work?

Reply to balthalzar

I actually believe it will. Based on my experiences with a smaller PSU than yours. But you may want to get either of the other two cards instead to be sure. That is if you don't want to risk needing a larger PSU. Their 500W recommendation is a blanket reccomendation. You have 470W but its 80% efficient most Cheap PSU's are around 65% efficient. You probably have more power on the rail than a cheap 500W unit that you might get free with a case.

Shouldn't be a problem;
2 HD's
3 fans
1 DVDrw
P5N-E SLI
E4300 overclocked to 2.4 (1.4v )
2x1g Ballistix
8800 GTS 512 overclocked
Antec 380 watt / 27 amp psu, built on the same Seasonic platform as the Silencer 470

------------------------------ q9650 @ 4.050 | Asus Rampage Formula | 2x2 & 2x1 Corsair Dominators | WD Black 640 x2
EVGA GTX260 Core216 @ 686/1479/1103 | Antec TPN 750
