If you can afford it, Yes the HD4870 1GB is a great choice. The current NVIDIA GTX 2XX cards are overpriced, outside GTX 260 core 216. Stick with your choice, HD4870, or even HD4850 1GB would be very good. I would question your PSU here though, 450W might not be good enough. The HD4870 needs 2 PCI-E connectors. One PCI-E 6pin, and one 8pin. You may want to invest in a 600Watt+ Power Supply. Corsair, Seasonic, Antec, PC Power and Cooling are the best ones. Keep that in mind. May have to go with a HD4850 after all. Check newegg.com for Power Supplies. Hope that helps.
nah man, i do LOVE my 4850, 512mb, but for the same price i paid a couple months ago, you can get the 4870 with 512mb now, ($150) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 0HD%204870 keep checking back for a deal.. And yes you will probably need a new powersupply,

My 4870 has 2-6 pin connectors. i read this and had to go look lol but sure enough only 6 pins. my psu has 1 6 pin and 1 6+2 pin connector....is this just a revised edition of the card. also made my diamond not sure if that matters
