I'm just throwing this idea around in my head for building a new workstation for video editing. How fast would a 8 Core ala Two Xeon E5504's at 2Ghz be with 6 GB of Tri channel ram and 2 SSD's in Raid 0? Man imagine if you could overclock to over 3Ghz. :ouch: :ouch: :ouch: :ouch:

Boggles the mind.

It'd be pretty good...

I don't think workstation boards support overclocking, so you can get rid of that idea. It would be quite fast for video editing though. It's not worth it over your current i7 rig though, unless you do video editing professionally or something like that.

In theory, twice as fast as a 4 core workstation. :)

Try it and tell us, the dual 1366 boards are pretty cheap, like $250 I think.

What video editing software? Some are still single-threaded. Even some of the multi-threaded editors don't use more than 2 threads, and not all editing functions will have multi-thread support.

I configured it on newegg and it would be like 800 for the processors/board and memory

The lady is the video editor in the family. Not sure what she uses
