Hi there. I am curious if anyone has successfully ( Prime95 tested ) got AMD 965 125 watt overclocked at over 4.0 ghz stable on a Windows 7 64 bit setup ! Anyone?? If so, please share your settings or secrets. I have read, researched, and tweaked everything possible. My best is 3.94 ghz stable and appears to be the breaking point. Sorry, this has been bothering me but I am so obsessed on getting it over 4.0. LOL. I am assuming I have all the premium components to achieve this but may be missing that one thing. After the around the world tour of experiments with trying to OC, I have just simply settle with 3.9 by setting the bios to 19.5 multiplier and everything on auto, and without using the software. My temps are good, 38c idle and 48c on 3.9.

My current setup is...

Asus M4A87TD EVO
AMD 965 Black, 125 watt
Cosair H50 water cooler, dual fan push pull
8 gigs DDR3 1333 mem ( 4x2 )
750 Watt PSU
Windows 7 64 Bit home prem
ATI 5770 Card
Coolmaster mid tower
Hans G281 28" 1080p monitor
6 120mm fans
LG BR burner
WD HD, 64 mbs, Sata 3

Any suggestions will be appreciated. I just get the feeling that I've reached the max.

Thanks

I have seem a number of people get 4GHz posting in forums but myself found my limit at 3.8 but only with very high voltage so running at 3.7 (this is on an unlocked phenom 550BE though). What voltage are you running at with it on auto?

Each chip is different. I got mine to 4.1 at 1.53v, but I wasn't comfortable with the voltage or the temps and I only ran prime 95 on it for 3 or 4 hours so I don't know if it was fully stable, so I settled at 4.0Ghz and 1.486 volts. My temps max at around 54 on prime 95.

It's just luck of the draw really.

Also, whats your voltager?

My voltage is floating around 1.42 and 1.43 because it is set to Auto. I understand that not raising the voltage may be the problem, but everytime I raise it to 1.45 or more, and increase the multiplier of 19.5 to 20, it will crash. So I am doubting that voltage may be the issue. Its something about going from 19.5 to 20. Again, I am OC'd at 3.939, totured tested, and stable. I guess I just gotta live with it.

You may be able to get a little more out of er' by raising the FSB a little (although with 8 Gig of RAM there may not be much headroom). Much like your 965, mine does not like multiplier settings above 19x either, so I have went from @200 to @211 on the FSB. I'm currently running at @4009.

PS: You should really hard-set your voltages, if your temps. are OK your good to 1.5v
