Do i have to reapply the thermal compound every time I readjust the the heatsink?

Also I happened to upgrade the motherboard. Do I have to reapply the thermal compound everytime I upgrade?

I have been readjusting my cpu and heatsink alot lately. Is that necessarily a bad thing? I figured that minimizing contact with the mobo was the best way to go.

Any thoughts?

I would "leave it alone". I work at dell assembling servers, and static discharge is always a possibility everytime you touch the board or cpu. Only 5 volts can damage some electronic components. You can't feel when your body discharges 5 volts, so you won't even realize you've damaged something until it's too late. If you must fool with your board or cpu, use a static discharge band and follow the directions. They cost as little as $1.
