I have an HP G50 notebook and would like to upgrade my current internal 802.11b/g mini-pci adapter to a 802.11b/g/n adapter. I purchased an atheros based mini-pci on ebay and the HP bios doesnt like it. It tells me that i have an unapproved wireless adapter and that I need to remove it and reboot...

I was hoping somebody would have some info on a "approved" n adapter that would work in the G50....

Your best bet is to look up an equivalent HP n-wireless laptop on their home site and see if you can work out whether it uses a mini-pci adapter -- then look for one on e-bay.

Trouble is that, as you have discovered, HP (and in my experience, Dell) lock up the BIOS on laptops to exclude later add ons -- for example some DVD or CD drive modules will accept replacement bare drives but won't install simply because the BIOS chucks up an error. This sort of bloody mindedness is typical of the industry, I'm afraid.
