Hello, I have a cpu i would like to put in one of my builds that may be bad. Will trying it have a risk of damaging my mobo?

I doubt it. Unless you try to use the wrong cpu for your board (with a different pin count). Check "cpu support" for your board before installing it. The voltage specs keep changing with each new cpu.
