I haven't been able to install Sims 2 Uni. It gets to 67% which is at the
TS2UPD file, hangs for quite a few minutes, then pops an error saying it
couldn't read the file from the media. I've tried installing it from both my
DVD and CD ROM drives and get the same error.
I had never installed Sims 2 on this computer (my computer is down
atm...mobo went bad so I'm using my kids pc) until last night. Since the
kids dvd drive was bad, we took MY dvd drive and put it in the kids pc so I
could install Sims 2 DVD version. That went beautifully and being a fresh
install, there are no hacks/objects/recolors in my game.

I tried installing Sims 2 Uni BEFORE patching Sims 2 and after patching it
and still got the same error. I followed the instructions for manually
uninstalling, listed here

http://eagames.custhelp.com/cgi-bi [...] _topview=1

and still got that error. I also tried to copy the disk to my hard drive so
I could install it from there. It gave me an error that said "Cannot copy
TS2UPD: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).". I don't know if that's
because they don't want it copied to your hard drive or if the file on the
disk is really just bad.

I almost feel like just giving up on Sims. I've been through too many hoops
of anticipation, expectation and now frustration over this game. :(

If you haven't tried this already, go to page 16 of the booklet
you received with the University game, and try following the
instructions for shutting down background tasks. I was having
the same problem you're getting in installing, and that worked
for me. Seems I had to do it the first time I installed S2, as
well, but I could be remembering that incorrectly.

Ack... I was thinking maybe it was copyprotection, but I guess not.

I had the same problem with the original Sims 2, had a bad CD #3,
not a very uncommon problem given the huge number of CDs going out.

I called EA tech today and was told to return the game for a new one. Since
I pre ordered it from EA's site, I have no idea how long this will take.
Will send it first thing tomorrow though.
