i have a AMD 9600 phenom quad and i am trying to build a HDPC system i have a case but i am looking for advice on witch mother board and power supply would go well with my cpu.

Well without knowing the case, there are alot of options.

Personally I would stick with mATX motherboard. A 790GX chipset would be ideal, if you want a bit lower priced motherboard, then go for a 780G instead.

If you don't plan on gaming and don't need discrete GPU, then a quality 300W - 400W PSU would work.

The 780G motherboards have built in HDMI, so you don't need a nice graphics to output to the TV. The 9600 should be adequate for high quality enoded HD videos, and Blu-rays.

If your case can fit a full size ATX power supply then I recommend one made by Seasonic. The wattage will depend on your build, but generally 500w will suffice for a HTPC which doubles as a mainstream gaming PC.
