I cannot get msconfig to run under win xp. I have no idea
why, but when I select START, RUN, then enter msconfig and
select OK, nothing happens. Any idea where to start
looking?

That often means you have a virus... there are several which
specifically target and disable msconfig from running... and
they also target anti-virus products on your computer so you
can't even do a virus scan

You should go to one (actually, several, to be sure) of the
online anti-virus vendors and scan your computer from their
interactive tools at their web sites

You are correct. I ran Norton AV and it identified a
number of files that were suspect. They were then deleted.
I still could not run MSCONFIG however. I finally copied
MSCONFIG and renamed it. I ran it using the new name and
was able to disable a number of applications from the
startup process. After that I ran additional AV software
and removed several adware/spyware applications. I can now
run MSCONFIG using the original name. Everything is
running again. I appreciate your help.
