Im looking at a system based on the threads ive been reading here. It seem like this is a good setup, so please tell me if you agree or not! Thank you in advance!

GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4 AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition
SAPPHIRE 100259L Radeon HD 4870 512 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported
Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

Im thinking a 700watt ps, but have a 500w thermaltake on hand that might handle it... only 1 hard drive and an optical. Is there anything anyone would say about this setup? These 4 items are a great combo deal on newegg thanks!

I think your 500 watt psu will handle it . It might also be running its fan at a higher speed and be making a bit extra noise but try it and see if you can live with it .

Thats a very good value quad core gaming system IMO

Thank you a ton for your responses! The value of the 750w PS is great... ill consider it for sure. Im thinking that im ready for upgrades (perhaps 4870x2) in 6 months or so, but we'll see. Again, thanx for the responses!!

Here is the gigabyte page for it... i think its a great board because : fx has too much for me i wont use, and gx has on board graphics i dont use, it has the 750 south bridge, is AM3 ready and accepts ddr2 1200 ram, 140 watt cpu ready. All for a cheap price, how can anyone touch that??? the 790x chipset with 750 south bridge is almost nowhere else to be found.... except gigabyte!

I agree it's great same reason I want it, only you don't seem to be able to buy it here in Britain? And US outlets are few and far between too. Search for prices and you'll see what I mean.

Make sure to get an aftermarket CPU Cooler.
The only reason to get the Phenom II X4 940 BE is if you're gonna overclock it, and you're gonna need way better than a stock cooler for that.

Maybe grab the 1Gb GDDR5 version of the Sapphire 4870 as well, it'll make a big difference. Get the bigger PSU for the bigger card or if you plan on going Crossfire.

Looks decent otherwise.

Hmm 790GX where i'm at are so readily available- we have Biostar, Asrock, Asus, MSI ...the works. If you can't find a 790X some people actually like the idea of an IGP to fall back on in case something happens to there GPU/s :p
