Hey guys I put together a new computer and started getting some ridiculous benchmark scores. (like 200 cpu score!!)
Well, turns out the problem was that my mobo didn't support the cpu I had (not enough watts comin out etc).
So, I replaced the mobo with one that claims to support it an ASUS M3A78-CM (flashed the bios to make sure it was up to date) and I'm still getting low scores. Granted I am now getting a 700 cpu score which is better but according to an AMD tech support rep, I should be getting about 4k cpu score alone.
When I replaced the mobo I literally just swapped it out with my old one (didn't have to reactivate anything). BUT for the sake of testing, I repair installed, as well as a complete reformat/install. But I still have poor results.
Oh, I forgot 3DMark 06. I dont' have any screenshots. cause after the reformat I'm having a problem with it (hoping to have resolved on a different post). I don't know how to share the original benchmarks that I uploaded.
Your right that 700 is low, but there is no way you would be able to get around 4k for a cpu score on an X2 6400. Based on my results using other Athlon X2 processors you should get around 2300 for a cpu score, give or take a few hundred.
The only thing I can RMA is the new mobo since all the other stuff is way past that.
How many times can a cpu be removed and replaced? I definitely handle with care but I just don't want to keep swapping it out all willy nilly.
It would be nice if I had a friend to test it with but I think the last computer they built was about 4 years ago and I doubt their mobo would support the cpu. (I'll check though if he's up for it). I'll have to double check if the mfg claims to support the cpu before I try though. If not then I can try one of the cpus from one of the other ones I built(built 5 in total). Like I said though I just didn't want to start swapping stuff out all casually which is why I am trying to test just this one cpu first.
This is a retail chip which hasn't been OC'd my guess why some of you OC'rs might not have higher cpu scores could be because of difference cache sizes on the chip?
