I'd like to monitor my CPU temp using the thermosensor built into it. I know that software exists to poll and report this data, but I'd like to implement a front-panel temperature display completely in hardware. Basically, my question is this: Do motherboards have pins which output the temperature as an analog voltage? If not, what's the simplest way you can think of to get the CPU temperature as a signal on a wire?
As I've answered your previous post, it's probably possible to pull data from the CPU temperature PIN (where the CPU HSF plugs into).
couldnt be more wrong
4 Pin CPU fan connectors consist of 2 power wires (+ and -), a RPM sensor and finally a PWM wire, it has nothing to do with temps
on the other hand feedback from the CPU will cause the PWM side to spin the CPU fan up when its getting "hot"
OP: as for your front pannel etc you can get fan controllers that display temps from thermal diodes etc that you can attach to the CPU hsf or near the socket etc to get temps that arnt acurate but sufficent for display etc
Its cool to look at but inaccurate. I have an Ultra TEC Cooler that has a device that fastens into your case like a DVD rom drive and has a display interface that shows you this temp in F or C degrees.
Hardware monitor shows my cpu tems at 98*F OC @ 3.6 but my display device says 89*F. I trust hardware monitor more than that display device but if you simply have to have this then this is my setup:
