Okay firstly I know this question has probably been asked a few times, but i can't find any specific information with my system.
I'm running a q6600 G0 @ 3ghz, 4Gb 4-4-4-12 Ram,
Vista 32bit Home Premium, 9800GTX (not oc, or the + version), 500GB HD, Asus P5N-E Sli
I've been offered a second hand GTX 280 for 150 euro (reasonable price for ireland). I've also got access to a new 4870 1GB model for 189 euro
Frist question is, would my system be a bottleneck for either of these GPU's. Would another increase in CPU overclock get more out of the GPU's?
Second question is, would it be worth my while Sli'ing another 9800GTX with the motherboard I have. It's only 8 + 8 i think!! so would i get full whack from the SLI setup?
Well go ahead and buy the GTX 280...
It will outperform the 4870 1GB by a gud margin...and going with nvidia makes sense as u have a SLI motherboard...
Actually in other places, the 280 is costlier than the 4870...dunnno how it is the other way around in Ireland :?
Well the GTX is second hand. The 4870 is new. And actually i've just checked the model on the 4870 and it's the 512mb version not 1gb. Ill have to take another look.
Have you any idea about my system possibly bottlenecking things for me. Is there enough power to drive those cards to their full potential?
hey no ...ur system will not bottleneck the card...And how much is the 9800GTX u can add one more in SLI...dont worry about the x8x8 beacuse u wont notice much difference...And the 2 GTX in SLI will perform very well...

thanks for that. not sure about the cost of GTX. They seem to be difficult to get now.
I would imagine it would be a lot cheaper since it's last years gen. I might try an SLI setup.
