Hello,

I'm posting a new thread about this issue, which is apparently common. I've installed a Diamond Radeon HD 4870 x2 and then to simply put, cannot play any games because it crashes just before it loads a level or map. The threads are very messy and are not organized well so its hard to keep up with the new information. I hope to isolate all the possible problems and I can then assume its the video card which I do not believe is the problem.I have read up on this intensively and will try all the possible fixes.

Here are some of the fixes i have tried so far that have NOT worked.

1) Uninstalled ATI Catalyst driver and reinstalled. (9.2 version)

2) Not PSU because i have installed 2 other video cards and it worked fine. PSU: Antec Quattro 850 Watts. GPUs tried: HD 2900 XT and Geforce 9800 gx2.

3) Fresh install of windows and re-install of drivers.

Possible solutions still to try;

1) Update Mobo Bios. I'm running a Maximus 2 Formula bios 1702 and 1802 has hd 4870 x2 fixes. And if not try the very latest 1902.

2) If the above does not work, I will attempt to run in my other rig with Asus P5E (x38) mobo.

Areas that offer possible solution(will try after possible solutions), but seems to be on special cases;

1) ATI Catalyst Profile: having 2 gpus seems to cause issues and clock speeds.

2) Driver related issue on Catalyst 9.2. Wait on new drivers (will most likely not wait)

3) Ram issue. Possibly can't run with the 4870 x2?

I hope people can answer in an organized manner as to also help people post new information instead of redundant solutions.

System specs please?
I can vouch theres no issues with c9.2, I've got it running on several machines with no issues.
Are you overclocking your cpu or gpu?
What are you cpu and gpu temps?

Since BIOS 1802 is supposed to have some 4870X2 fix, I think it would be a good start :P (you can probably use the 1902 even if not beta (or you feel comfortable with beta BIOS)).

There should be no RAM incompatibilities, however, you should definitely test your RAM with memtest. Could be that some memory addresses are bad, but they are only used when running games ...

ZIP. Temps are fine. Got the fans running at 70 % keeping it at 60 degrees celsius.

GREAT! I can't believe it WAS the card. Meh. I'm so disappointed. I got it replaced and it works like a charm.
