Running 2 external hard drives through laptop

Hello

I need some help here. I am trying to recover information from an external hard drive. There is too much for my laptop so I got myself a Seagate 1tb to put it on but my laptop wont find it. Both hard drives are powered up.

I am running windows xp

Any advise will be very welcome

is your Seagate Brand new? Have you formatted it?

how old is your laptop? does it have USB 2.0/3.0 controller? if you only have USB 1.2 it will probably take a while for it to recognize such a big HDD.

Today it has found it.

My lap top is a few years old so i shall assume that was the problem
