At the end of the year I am upgrading my computer for the release of Microsoft Windows 7. Will Windows 7 run with these specifications?

intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66GHz
4GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 9800 GT (512MB)

Easily. Hell, It even runs on old Dell workstation that I had lying around with 2x Pentium 3 1GHz , 1GB memory, 32MB Matrox 450 Video. Only could not find drivers for Network card so popped in another one I also had lying around and it works.

If Vista runs, 7 should fly.

Or at least run more quickly.

What about drivers for older hardware like sound blaster etc? Vista sucked at that.

The PC will be powerful enough for sure (or else about 90% of the market won't be able to use it :P). For hardware compatibility, you can always check the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.
