its an old outdated chipset. make sure you have updated your drivers but to be honest i would bite the bullet and buy a new graphics card. search ebay for a cheap APG card, maybe a 6600gt or something similar.

or you can get an ati 1650pro for $59

make sure you buy AGP as the VIA chipset only supports AGP bus types not PCI express.

Zoo Tycoon was originally a 2D modeling game, which would run on your old video system, but Zoo Tycoon 2 made the move to true 3D modeling, requiring hardware texture and lighting, and DX 9.0c.
The old DX7 era VIAKM400 simply will not support these features, as mentioned you will have to get a new video card to play the game.

I was just gonna add, The best AGP card you can find is The HD3850, so you won't see any 4XXX series cards available. If you can find it, the Geforce 6600GT or 6800GT would be fine. I think there is even some Geforce 78XX series cards that would be AGP. Remember, Only AGP will work for you.
