This is the situation, I flashed my gigabyte motherboard with the latest firmware. After a couple of reboots, I copied the bios firmware that's in my system with the bios utility called q-flash on to a removable medium. Using the md5 checksum, i compare the original firmware and the bios firmware. On each reboot they're different. Is this normal even though I haven't altered the bios settings or cmos?

I'm assuming the checksum only changes because the BIOS has to save new settings every time your system boots up.

With the latest news about bios rootkits, I've been a bit paranoid. Especially with my computer making unusual spurious outbound connections to consumer isp, I can't be too careful.

If the bios is saving new settings shouldn't only the cmos change and not the bios firmware?
