Hello,

This has been an ongoing problems for years now. I can not burn CDs. I have tried different brands of blank CDs. I have tried burning from different programs (Windows, Nero, iTunes, etc). I have replaced the DVD Rewriter drive. I have done a complete system reinstall. Nothing has fixed it. Please help!!

  1. Go to my computer-->right click on the DVD drive that's not burning-->properties-->make sure recording is enabled.

If that doesn't solve the issue, try deleting the upper and lower filters.

If that doesn't work, try running this Fixit scan.

  2. Thanks. Recording is enabled on this drive. I ran both of those Window fixes and it came back telling me "Drive is not capable of burning (HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H54L)" and that was it.

The drive is a LG recorder. Before it, the Dell drive that came with the machine had the same problem. There has got to be something else to this problem besides the drives.
  3. I think the problem is that it's being recognized as a DVD-RAM drive.

I'd suggest looking for a BIOS update first. That would explain why the OS reinstall and different drives haven't fixed it.
  4. I think it is a DVD-RAM drive. It is an LG GSA-H54L DVD+R and DVD-RAM.

However, like I mentioned, it didn't work with the original Dell drive either.

I updated the BIOS, but it was no help.
  5. I would suggest trying to find a DVD+-RW drive, and see if that works. Other than that, I'm out of ideas.
