Help with memory

I am building a workstation for CAD and plan on getting 12gb ram (6*2gb). I was wondering if I need to buy a set of (6*2gb) or if I would be ok with 2 sets of (3*2gb), because I can find smaller sets that perform better.
To be used with i7 920 and asus p6t deluxe.

As someone here once insisted, you should use as little sticks as possible. Less sticks mean less heat generated, so go with the 6x2GB.

Thanks for replying, but both of my options I listed actually used the same amount of sticks (6*2gb). I just wanted to know if I had to order a set of 6*2 or if I could order two sets of 3*2 and use them together.
