Connecting hard drive

Is it possible to work simultaneously with one external HD connected to two PCs through the USB and the eSATA ports of the HD while the two computers are on ?. One PC with WIN7 the second with XP

Not physically possible, but you can setup the external drive as a share on one computer, so the other computer can access it through your network.

I have seen one multi-drive enclose that does this by providing a switch on the enclosure to allow you to set which communication system it is using, but that is not common at all. Most allow you to use only one interface at a time. (In fact, that is what the switch on that unit does - it allows you to use only ONE interface, but you can change while it's powered on.)
