V6 GT vs. CoolITALC?

The difference in price between the two at my local Fry's is only $5. Performance-wise, is there much of a difference?

Solution
It's important to always compare your temps with your room temp. assuming your room temp is the average 21-25c then your temps are a little high. the v6 should cool on par with the v8. my v8 is about 17c above room temp. I wager a proper application of AS5 should bring your temps down by 5c.

Well, I went to buy an extension cable earlier and got myself the V6 GT. It's...really big. I was going to get the CoolIt, but they only had 2: 1 was an open box w/o the bracket of backplate, and the other one had a pretty beat up box. I didn't notice H50's there last time I went...I guess I should add that to the comparison since it's only $5 more than the ECO...

So I hooked up the V6 GT and Overdrive is showing me core temps of 31-32C. I don't remember what it was with the stock cooler, so I don't know how much cooler it got. Would either the ECO ALC or H50 be much better?

31-32c is pretty good for idle, its load that you need to look at. can you run prime95 for a while and tell us what you get. I have a v6 GT on order (will have it in 2 days). I've read 5 reviews and so far looks awesome! the fans that come with it are amazing, it appears the only downside is the noise with fans on full speed. But in a couple of the reviews it says even with an i7 920 overclocked to 3.6GHz, you only need them on low speed!! link to a couple of reviews:-

Well, I ran Prime95 for 3 1/2 hours on Blend only, a pretty short time frame compared to what I've read. I was on my laptop in the meanwhile and checked temps every once in a while. 48/49C was pretty much what it was at, though it did reach 50 for a few seconds on one of my checks.

BTW, the V6GT is cooling a stock AMD 955.

I ran out of AS5, so I just used the compound Cooler Master supplied. And the fans were going full speed because I had disabled the smart fan control in BIOS.

I ran Prime95 again earlier (again, Blend only), this time for 5 hours instead of 3. Same result as yesterday, steady at 49C. My idle temps are up though, from 31/32 yesterday to 35/36 today. Any thoughts on that?

The fans are not too loud, they are pretty decent dBa compared to most coolers. However if you feel that it is TOO loud, then just get Slipstreams. Anywho Like Psy said, it's important to look at your Ambient, for instance 50*F ambient from 80* ambient makes a huge difference.

The room temp is normally 75-78F, which is close to 25C, I think. Though, when I ran the Blend test yesterday, I had just come home and my A/C is set higher to 80 when I'm out. I'm getting 32-34C right now with the room at 78F. Still higher than what I was getting the first day, but I've been reading some reviews and a few of them had similar idle temps. Like I said, not attached to this thing yet, I may still return it for a refund and spend a little extra on an ECO ALC or H50 if either does a better job. I'll try to re-apply some compound later, Shin Etsu X23, to be exact (ran out of AS5 and got the X23 from a buddy).

Well, I said I was going to re-apply some thermal paste earlier, but...I got lazy halfway through removing the cooler. It's not exactly easy removing it due to its size and the plastic top portion with the LED. It is down to 30.5-32C idle right now, though. My home A/C has been maintaining a 24C temp, so the higher room temp yesterday must have been the cause in idle temp jump.

Looks as if your temps are about where they should be. keep in mind that the v6 gt also helps cool the components around it. (like the mofsets, ram and north/south bridge.) With the eco and the h50 it really helps to have side or RAM fans. Take a look at these delta values. the V6 GT should be on par with the cooler master V8.

I would keep the v6 but it's your call of course.

Well, after a few days of idling at 31-33C, I'm now idling @ 36-39C. Load temp is still hovers around 49, though. I re-applied MicroSI X23 and re-seated the heatsink earlier today. Should I be worrying about my idle temps so much if my load temps are consistent?

do you have the fans on full speed all the time? I set the option in BIOS, smart fan or something, and it ramps up and down when needed. so most the time very quiet. Its the best cooling system I've had, practically as good as water.
