Is Dual GB LAN useless

sturm

Splendid
for the normal user yes it is. It only serves as a backup connection if your other nic breaks.

Power users can use the 2nd connection to run a 2nd network off their pc. Some may use it as a gateway/router/dhcp/dns/domain computer.

dual gig lan has a few uses in the home such as connecting a home server to the switch. But to even use dual lan you need a switch that supports link aggregation.

basically you link the two connections and double the bandwidth of said connection. though few people need more than 125MBs

No you don't need two isp lines

so will there be a big increase in terms of performance, and which switch would you recommend that is nice and cheap?

It will almost double the bandwidth of the connection. As to it's usefulness that depends on how much data your moving and how fast the computers can handle it. The only use you'll likely have is from a home server to the switch. And that only applies with a good raid array in the server and several computers accessing it simultaneously and demanding a lot of bandwidth.

Here are several options it depends on your needs
