I'm sure several of you have heard of this problem before, as it is relatively common with windows radeon drivers. I have had this issue in the past as well but through some random tinkering managed to fix it (several years ago on a different machine). Essentially, I cant upgrade my radeon drivers. I install the driver package from the AMD website and nothing happens, the version doesn't update. I manually remove the old software and then reboot, but the windows vista baseline drivers install automatically and I cannot stop them. In the past I tried booting into safe mode and eventually I got it, but that was with XP so Im not sure the solution is the same.
Is there a way to fix this easily, because it is really quite annoying.
Odd....I just double checked over all of the driver info. The driver I actually have (the latest one from the AMD website) is version 8.582. On the website though, it claims that the latest drivers are 9.2.... Is this a mistake on the AMD website? Or am I making a stupid mistake and not understanding something here?
Either way...the website claims the latest drivers were released 2/20/2009 and when you actually download from their link and install it tells you the drivers are from 2/3/2009
I have the drivers you have linked to me. The question I have is why the display driver version is listed as 9.2 on the AMD website whereas my device manager is telling me that I have 8.582. I have verified that the 8.582 version of the display driver is absolutely what comes in the download package from the link you just gave me. I'm trying to figure out if it's a mistake on their end or if the 8.582 display driver is part of the overall 9.2 "package". Since I'm not a professional with these things I'm asking the question here.
