Does anyone know around how much the new 6-core AMD Opteron "Istanbul" will be when it comes out in June? Will it be a $500 CPU, or will it be in the $1000+ range?

Probably around the 1k range. It will just depend on demand and of course pricing by Intel. We'll have to wait and see.

Depending upon the actual performance of it compared to not only Intels 6 core Xeon, but also compared to Intels Nehalem based Xeons the price could be anything.

But I am willing to bet $1K-$2K.

After all it is a server chip.

my bets on $500 since they will want to stay competitive in the low-end workstation market too.
