Hey people of the all famous tomshardware forum.... I need some help on a decession.
I built a new gaming computer when I got my taxes. Well with the old parts that I replaced I decided to build an htpc. I had a quick cpu cooling question. I replaced my old cpu (pentium D 945) with an E8400. When I upgraded I had plans of minor OCing so I bought an aftermarket cooler with the new processor.
Well a while back I had to getto rig the stock intel cooler to the mobo when I had the 945 in because I broke a few of the plastic push pins while doing a system cleaning.
My question was could I use the stock heatsink that came with my E8400 with that CPU. The only thing I would be worried about is the heatsink is about a third smaller than the one that came with the 945. I don't know if intel improved there cooling solutions or what but I wanted to know if it would keep my processor cool enough to operate properly.
I just want to know an answer to this question. My wife won't let me spend anymore money on the htpc as I have already spent about 300 on misc. parts for this. I'm just trying to recycle as many parts as possible from my old system.
Thanks in advance for the help. I really apprecate it.
I wouldn't go with the E8400 cooler. The E8400 uses a lot less power and creates a lot less heat than the 945. Its stock cooler is smaller, and probably insufficient.

+1, The Pentium D 945's TDP is 95W while the E8400 has a TDP of 65W. That E8400 runs much cooler than the PD 945. You can get the Scythe Mugen 2 for $37.00 + Free Shipping.
