Has anyone received the new stepping of the i7 920? If not, what speed do you run the CPU at, and at what Vcore? I'm willing to wait a few months for the new stepping to saturate the market while the older stepping disappears. I'm looking for a 3.6GHz to 3.8GHz overclock on the CPU with a minimal raise in Vcore.

3.8Ghz should be doable with 1.3v on a C0. My C0 needed 1.425v for 4.3Ghz

I was in similar boat to yourself = and found this article comparing the 2 steps to one another. I ended up jumping on the 200.00 i7 920 cpu from microcenter. The price was Too good to pass up.

I wish I could find that same CPU for that price. Newegg has it for 279.99 with free shipping.

Yeah - I'm lucky I got a local store. I was planning on waiting a couple months for the price to come down - or for the D0's to saturate the market - but after stewing for a little bit on the decision - the sale price was too good to pass up.

I was originally looking for a Phenom II build - b/c of price - but I'm gonna be happier knowing I got the best available vs Best I could afford. The upper level i7's werent' even in my ballpark of consideration.

Now I got to quickly learn up on Video Cards / MOBO so I can pick and order the rest of my parts and get going on my first PC build.

D'OH!!!

asking whether to get c0 or d0 is like asking what should i get plain vanilla icecream, or double chocolate fudge icecream.

im running 3.6 easily on 1.2v and can also reach 3.8 on that voltage, bt sticking with the 3.6 for the cooler load temps

Well, I broke down today and ordered an i7 system.

Core i7 920

Asus P6T

OCZ Plat 3x2GB DDR3 1600 7-7-7-24

Came out to just a hair over $600 at Newegg. The price looked so low I had to buy. So I guess I will find out what stepping I have next week sometime. 3.6GHz sounds great. After reading the review on here about different i7 frequencies and efficiency, 3.6GHz is plenty.

Ouch, that price is steep.
