I have a 550 Watt Corsair PSU and a O/C GTX 260 (216)... so yes!

Oh but make sure it has the required power connections (I think all GTX260s need two 6 pin power plugs)

ok....uber sweet

its an older one but higher quality

will the two molex adapters be good enough

and to be sure that my PSU could power a 4870??

Yeah you can use the molex adapters with the 6-pin space, but I think it takes up 2 molexes to power one 6-pin so you might need four free molexes.

And yes I think the 260's are more power hungry than the 4870.

Like gtown said a 550W can power a GTX 260...but can you give the make and model of the PSU as there are some 550W, which are not good enough for the job and you wouldn't want the risk of crashing your components do you...

idk the make nor model...ill just get a crossfire certified that way ill know my components are ok :D

thoughts still welcome

Did you properly check if there is only a single 12V rail with 25a ???
Theoretically you are good to go but if the PSU is very old, then its components might have degraded and it might not be able to provide enough power...
But you can confirm that if the PC would shutdown during game play or high graphics intensive tasks...

its only about a year old...and could you clarify on what 'properly' checking the amps would be

Reply to UberGenocide

Did you see just 1 12V rail or more...
Just needed a confirmation for the same...

And it doesn't have pcie connectors???

Reply to gkay09

no...but i am powering my 9600 GT OC with just one molex going into a 6 pin PCI adaper

JUST ONE and it runs flawlessly

Reply to UberGenocide

Well the 9600GT doesnt require so much power as a GTX 260...
The 9600GT is a 96W Maximum Graphics Card Power (W)...where as the GTX 260 is a 182W Maximum Graphics Card Power (W)...

I feel you shouldnt take chaces with that PSU...
$40 could get you good PSU that could run that GTX 260 with the required power connectors...

But if you still want to run the GTX 260, then its your choice..
