the fans starts working, and the gfx shows green light, but the monitor remains in standby. i have removed one of the dominator corsair ram, tried to put the gfx card in different pci-e slots, and tried with a different monitor.

Do you have any suggestions, im starting to get short on ideas.

Try getting an older cpu to update the Bios with and then it should work

i would do the obvious when going with a phenom 2 ...that is, check again if i have the newest bios installed for the motherboard...since most am2+ boards do require a bios update for phenom 2 to work... unfortunately some boards wont even post with an x4 940 so u cannot update the bios...the only way left is to use an older supported proc to update it first...
....try doing it if u have an older x2 or sempron or take it to a local computer shop may be they can help in flashing it for you..

plugged an old pci radeon in, and it started up. Doesn't an m4a79 deluxe board support nvidia cards, or was the gtx285 just damaged ?

Did you have both 6-pin power connectors plugged in to the GTX 285?

Reply to shortstuff_mt

yeah, and then it lighted green, with one 6-pin it lighted red, but no difference with the boot.

Was it seated all the way?

yeah, even tried to bend the metal, where you put the screw down, to see if i could get the card further down. But nothing, just the same, haven't tried pci-e before, so maybe there's something special im doing wrong.

are you sure it isnt POSTING?

do you have the case speaker attached and is it making any beeps at all when it powers on?
If the case speaker isnt in put it in now and it will tell you what is wrong with a beep code

try pluggin the monitor into the OTHER dvi port on the card

And for single card use, read the manual for which slot to have it in. It won't work in the wrong one..
