SMART failure prediction message halts boot

I used to use a Western Digital MyBook USB drive withg my Dell Mini 10v (WinXP, service pack 3)/
SMART found an imminent failure, so I stopped using the drive. But now, on bootup, I get the same error message and must press F1 to continue booting. The external was Drive 1; the internal boot drive is Drive 0.

Is there some way I can make SMART stop worrying about a drive that no longer exists?
