Can I use a q-tip and vodka ex: grey goose to remove thermal compound? I dont want to buy any thing else b/c im broke. what household item do u recomd for best removal

No reason why not,,just make certain all is cleaned off and look for residue from the vodka..of course if you have either rubbing alcohol or lighter fluid they will work,,as always no open flames around either item..:)

I prefer Isopropyl Alcohol, which is also known as Rubbing Alcohol. I use the ones with 99%, most people prefer ones that have 70% and over.
