I installed my old nVidia Quadro NVS 280 on brand new MoBo Asus P5QL-E. Trying to figure out why the MoBo does not boot (no beep), I noticed that the card's bus interface is PCI-32 [ http://www.nvidia.com/page/quadronvs.html ] while the slot in the MoBo is listed as PCI Express x16 [as per Asus manual]. Are PCI-32 and PCI Express x16 incompatible? If so, could the MoBo be damaged? Thank you.

in short, PCI and PCIe are incompatible......

the board shouldn't have even fit into the PCI-e slot. the p5ql-e should have 32 bit PCI slot(s) on board, are you sure you have it in the correct slot?

The card fits perfectly in the blu slot (specs: 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 slot)

My card reads NVS 280, but I guess it really is NVS 280-E. Very similar to
http://carta.lima-city.de/280PCI_E.jpg (mine is missing the two black connectors)

That leaves me with a MB that does not boot. It's a pretty basic system:
P5QL-E ♦ Core2Duo E7400 ♦ Kingston 1x1G KHX8500D2/1G 1066MHz ♦ nVidia Quadro NVS 280-E ♦ Antec Earthwatts EA-380 Watts ♦ DVD Toshiba Samsung TS-H552

No beep, HDD led steady on, DVD led not lit, tray does not open, CPU fan starts.
KHX8500D2/1G DIMM is listed as certified by Asus

Somebody suggested that I clear the CMOS.
Is that a safe thing to do?
Why should one need do that on a MB that never booted? Thank you.
