My CPU temps were way up there, so I decided I'd invest in a brand new 120MM Heatsink. Install and everything went great.

I put my PC back together, and it began booting, but once It got past the part where it states I have my DVD-RW drive in, it says Improper Boot Device, and that I have to either plug it in and press any key or restart.

The BIOS recognizes my HDD (Seagate 1TB 7200.11), when I boot up with my Windows Vista disc it shows nothing. Now I know it's working not only because it's spinning but when I choose to find Drivers, the Vista boot disc actually lets me search my HDD.

Also what is strange is sometimes if I disconnect my other SATA HDD, it says that a Master IDE HDD is not installed. I have tried Clearing the CMOS, different SATA configurations, different power cables and nothing. It's all there and I just seem to be missing something.

My mobo is an ASUS X48 Rampage Formula.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, there is a lot of valuable info I would rather not lose on the drive.

1. Check the cable... be sure your cable isn't defect.
2. If you can, check the hard drive in another computer and if you can access the data, copy it.
3. The last Seagates have a lot of problems, you should check the newegg forums for information.

If your HD work, you will know it`s a motherboard problem. It could be BIOS related or hardware related.

My old Asus board died this way, asking me were my hard drive was. Tried a new HD and it was unsuccessful.
