My next desktop purchase will have three purposes. First, I like to game at either 1080p or 720p (the resolutions my TV scales well), at least medium quality and an min FPS of 25. The second to run as quiet as reasonably possible. The third is to make the purchase with the knowledge that the core parts will be refreshed every 12-18 months.

What I mean by refreshing the core parts is that the CPU/GPU will be replaced or the CPU/GPU/MOBO/RAM will be replaced within that time frame.

Other things I should note:
I will be overclocking the CPU.
I'm not brand loyal.
I don't plan to Crossfire or SLI.
I leave my computer on 24-7.
I have a media server that will store the majority of my large longterm stuff.
My budget is whatever has good value (given my goals).

To satisfy the first part, I'll essentially be looking at the core parts CPU/GPU/MOBO/RAM.

CPU AMD Phenom 720BE - $150

RAM CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) XMS2 - $30

GPU Asus 4870 512MB - $150

Mobo Kinda lost here, I want a 790 series board because of the overclocking features with the BE chips. But, I'm not entirely sure what benefits there are from the X/GX/FX.

This MSI board is attractive at its price - $90

but I'm sure I'm missing something.

The longterm stuff which at this point I'm going to consider storage, case, PSU.

Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 - $200, easy to work with, no window, quiet, good airflow and lots of room.

I currently have the Enermax Modu82+ 625W which I'll keep for this build. But, if I had to buy a new one, I'm not sure what I would go with.

XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler - $40

The optical and the hard drives I have (now) are fine for my needs and my short term future needs.

I think that covers everything that I'd want to look at. Thoughts?

Yeah, I don't know, I swear it was $150, oh well. The HIS is fine.

Again, I don't realy have a budget per se, I have a minimum requirement to meet. I'm the type of guy thats happy with 1280x720, medium quality at an avg 35fps. Obviously, I prefer better resolution, higher quality and more FPS, but the benefits to me are marginal compared to my alternative.
