RAID 1 Controller card?

I'm considering setting up a couple of disks in RAID 1.
could anyone recommend a controller card? I've seen RAID cards ranging from $30 to $1300 on Newegg; that disparity arouses suspicion in me. What's that deal?

Probably a combination of processing power, cache RAM, battery backup, support for different RAID levels, etc. I expect the pricier ones are designed for servers.

I don't have recommendations, but as long as it supports your OS, and has decent reviews, I'd steer towards the cheaper or moderately priced ones (depending what your actual goal/usage is).
