Your motherboard may have played it's last deck of cards i am sorry to say.5 years is getting up there in pc life depending on how much you use it.

You can try an add on video card if your board has an agp or pci-e slot. Or you can replace the board if it's a desktop. If it's a laptop, then save the hardrive and donate the rest to Goodwill.

That happened to me on a old compaq i had for over 6 years.

So what exactly happened?
Was it working the one day and then when you turned it on the next day it just didn't start?
Please be more descriptive....

Sorry for the late post, I hope you respond...

Anyways, after playing a few games on my laptop, I get a C++ error. I try updating the graphic drivers and after I reset my computer, the windows xp loading screen seems to be filled with these colors. I reset windows and uninstall the graphic drivers and it seems to work fine now. I can't play even the weakest of games. Normally I would know how to fix this but it's a five year old laptop and I know more about desktops. That about sums it up.

Did you re-install the graphics drivers from the hp discs?
I know that all hps come with a re-installation disc of some sort. So your system should be back to like day 1 when you bought it.
Most likely you'll have to run through the updates from ms to get your system up to date again.
That c++ error is not a video driver issue but more likely a java or direct x problem.
Let us know what's happening...JQ
