Rice University Announcement

Here are a few key quotes from the above source:

layers of silicon-oxide memory can be stacked in tiny but capacious three-dimensional arrays

Silicon-oxide circuits carry all the benefits of the previously reported graphite device. They feature high on-off ratios, excellent endurance and fast switching (below 100 nanoseconds)

In summary this technology may be the next generation of high-density storage and another route to thwart Moore's law.

Do you think the introduction of this technology might bring down the cost of the current SSD drives? Any other thoughts on this technology?

Solution
It probably will not bring down current SSD costs until the technology becomes mainstream (if ever), which in that case, the current generation of SSD's may become obsolete. Ya never know though...

I'm hoping that if the tech comes out, the current SSD mfg's will see the tech as "competition" and try to lower their prices. But you're right, it will be a while before we see anything like that.
