I have 3 Lite-Ons and they all had or have the same issues. One of them finally stopped burning altogether. I found a firmware update at the Lite-On site which resolved all of the problems except one, a mechanical problem with the door sticking. I have been looking at the ASUS burner for a replacement.
I've got an LG burner here, and haven't had any issues with it so far (except that it's a little noisy compared to the rest of my system, but I can live with that)
I have an 3 year old Lite On drive which is also sticking when it is opened. I now have another Lite On that is VERY loud. It spins up and sounds like an engine. Is there a quieter optical drive that may help the OP too?
yeah one of my liteons prob was the tray,i could never get it to open....
never mind,i think i will keep an eye on samsung and pioneer.LGs are good but theyre too xpensive on the market just now.
and thanks hbr for that link i think is quite usefull.
Me either, I have been using Lite-On since 2003 without any problems, before DVD. Then when DVD burners came out I said why not, they've been good to me so far. The burner's are still burning so I guess it's not a top priority. Been trying to finish up other projects.

I personally like LG and Pioneer DVD drives, I have one of each brand and they are pretty solid. Almost 5+ years no problem!
I took your advice and just ordered 2 LG SATA burner's one for each computer. It will be my 1st time running SATA burner's, hope every thing goes smooth.
I had to send the LG drives back. I bought a new model which had ad-ware embedded in the firmware. There was a big stink at Newegg (comments) since the ad-ware couldn't be removed. LG came out with a fix to remove the ad-ware but it was too late, I had RMA'd the drives and purchased two SAMSUNG burners by then.
