I have a Gx280 dell optiplex small desktop. intel Pentium 4 3.0 ghz processor, 2gb DDR2 Ram, Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family 128 Mb (graphics card).

So anyway i want to upgrade my power supply for a new graphics card but the best dell offers is 280( or 250). Which really can get me much.

so i was wondering if there was anywhere that offered either a better replacement for the power supply, or offered external or custom sized power supplies.

in the compatibility it says it supports dell gx280 but it doesnt say which form. Im assuming its not the small desktop form because it doesnt look like it would fit.

What is the width of your case?

I called they said it wasnt for the gx280 small destop version. I also talked about their custom options and they said it cost 50,000 for the first model.

Do you have room for a 5 1/2" dvd expansion? If so, there are some auxiliary psu's for vga cards that fit in that slot.

yeah i do have an extra dvd slot(not sure if 5 1/2". Could you go into more depth into what an auxillary Psu is?

I could kiss you right now man (no homo). I have been looking for an answer to this problem for ever. One more question though what exactly is a dvd expansion slot size. How would i know if it is 5 1/2 ". Is this a standard size for all extra slots? My Gx280 does have a DVD Rw player and i would mind taking that out.

5 1/2 is a standard size for dvd installations. Possibly excepting the thin slot types that you see on laptops.

That PC Power Cooling PSU isn't the SFF version, I'm thinking its the mid-tower one.

Reply to AKM880

It looks pretty simple to me. No added power cord is needed, no pata connector is needed.

You install the unit in a dvd cage.
There is an internal power cord that leads to a standard back panel attachment. The supplied power cord plugs into that. (Yes, you need a second outlet or a power strip)
There is included a harness that plugs into the back of the unit, and the other end is a set of pci-e connectors that goes into the vga card.
A standard 4 pin molex connector plugs into the back of the unit. It's sole purpose is to tell the unit to power on when the pc powers on, and to power off when the pc is powered off.

Look at the photos of the unit on newegg and it's parts.
